Dear Members,
I feel privileged
and honoured to welcome you all to the 2011 season at Hoylake
Golf Club.
I would like
to thank Dave Denton , Captain 2009 , for nominating me for this
highly regarded post , and past Captains for electing me. I have
throughout my younger days been elected to the Captain's
position in football , boxing , cricket and other sports, but I
can honestly say that to be elected as Captain of Hoylake Golf
Club makes me prouder than any previous post.
The Captain's
Drive-In for 2011 will take place on the 26th March at 6.40am
and 9.40am, and I look forward to starting off, what I hope will
be an excellent year, with as many members as possible.
I will
endeavour to vary my starting times and play with as many
members as I can.
You cannot
have failed to have noticed the major work that has taken place
throughout the winter on the course drainage, and also the re-modelled
14th Hole. This, along with the work done improving the bunkers
will hopefully bear fruit in the next few months, and hopefully
we will be left with a course to be proud of.
The Club Day
Out this year will take place at Antrobus Golf Club. I played
this course recently and found it to be an excellent challenge
of golf with good facilities. This event will take place on the
10th June, and information will be posted on the notice board
nearer the time.
Some of our
younger members deserve thanks for updating and giving our
notice board a major facelift . It is now easier to access all
the information that needs to be conveyed to our members. Please
keep yourselves up to date by reading the notices which are
posted.
July will be
a busy month, with Captain's Day taking place on 16th July,
President's Day on 30th July and the Competition with Hoylake
Ladies on 23rd July. I request that as many of you as possible
sign up and support these days. This also applies to both the
singles and doubles knockout competitions, so please keep a
check as the dates are published on the notice board. Invitation
Day has been re-introduced on 18th June and I look forward
to your support in making it a success.
Finals Day
and The Ryder Cup will take place on Saturday 24th September.
The Committee have liased with West Hoyle and agreed that this
year on Sunday 25th September, the first of what is to be an
annual competition will take place with members from both clubs
participating. This joint competition will alternate annually,
with next year's competition taking place on a Saturday.
The Wirral
League, where matches take place on a Wednesday, also requires
your continued support and a sheet will be posted on the notice
board asking for names of those wishing to take part.
The Senior
section continues to be well supported and excellently run with
their Competitions taking place each Thursday.
The Annual
Dinner, Golf and Prize Giving will take place at The Royal
Liverpool Golf Club on the 4th November.
Finally, I
can assure all members that I will enjoy my year and I hope that
all expectations for a successful year for both yourselves and
the club are met.
Bill
Rogers
